Water Supply near the Coast - Diani WaterKiosk®
Diani beach, 35 km south of Mombasa, is probably one of the most visited tourist destinations in Kenya. Tourism has benefited the locals, but has also drastically increased the cost of living. The Diani WaterKiosk® provides low-cost drinking water to locals with traditionally limited or no access to clean drinking water. The solar water treatment plant is located just 500 meters from the beach and was installed right on the side of the main road. The water treatment plant is powered by a 10 kW solar array that pumps up to 20,000 liters of brackish water per day from a 30 meter deep borehole to produce clean drinking water.
