Water supply in a tourist destination Mtwapa
Mtwapa is one of the coastal region's property markets and home to a large number of European retirees and holiday-makers, who have built homes in the vicinity. The town has relatively high population and therefore the demand for affordable drinking water is inevitable.
The residents depend on shallow wells that are saline and contaminated making them unfit for human consumption. Mtwapa Waterkiosk is delivering 20,000 liters of clean hygiene drinking water per day from a shallow well. 9.8kW of solar array is powering the entire system and its operation
