Potable water in the village – Moyeni WaterKiosk®

Moyeni is a village in Kwale County, Kenya. Water pans and dams are the main sources of water for their livestock and households. Other water sources relied upon include boreholes, shallow wells, springs, natural ponds and rivers. Waterborn diseases are on the rise due to lack of safe drinking water.

The main economic activity for the locals is charcoal burning for their survival. With climate change and drought, residents suffered, their animals dying due to lack of water and pasture. The available water sources are far and not safe.

The WaterKiosk produces up to 20,000 liters of fresh drinking water in a day, powered by 9.3kW of solar. Now the residents can attend to other chores because of the availability of drinking water all the day long.
